Average pay for workers, when adjusted for inflation, is the same today as it was 50 years ago. (But the bosses are doing very well, thank you.) In fact, huge numbers are earning less — and lots of “our” jobs have shifted overseas, so the bosses’ wage bills have plummeted.
Working hours are up, as is unemployment.
We have to work longer to collect social security, and pensions are a distant memory for most. The bosses walk away from pension plans whenever they feel like it, saying that they’re too expensive. (Try that with your bills sometime, and see how far it gets you.)
The economy is doing well, or so the pundits tell us — it’s just the workers who produce all the world’s wealth who are suffering.
